Bringing MR-guided radiotherapy into the clinic
From Physics World — Christopher Schultz, MD, chair, Radiation Oncology Department, explained the important role the Froedtert & MCW Cancer Network is playing in the transformation of radiation therapy. Schultz and his team are one of the early adopters of Elekta’s Unity system, which combines high-field, 1.5 T magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with a state-of-the-art linear accelerator. This new generation of image-guided radiotherapy systems makes it possible to visualize the target area during treatment and adapt the radiation dose in real time.

Persistant case of pnemonia leads to startling discovery for local teacher
From CBS 58 — Tom, an MPS teacher, came to us around Thanksgiving with what he thought was pneumonia and shortness of breath. Additional testing showed a massive cancerous tumor that was blocking 90 percent of his airway. The location and size of the tumor required a world-renowned team of specialists and care teams, who put him on ECMO and worked quickly to save his life. Interventional pulmonologist Jon Kurman, MD, was interviewed about the importance of Tom being treated at the Froedtert & MCW health network. Tom is already back to teaching and feels great.
