The Sunflower Award for Extraordinary Nursing Support Staff was created to celebrate the devotion, strength and compassionate care given by nursing support staff to patients, families and staff.
Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and staff may nominate a nursing support staff member by filling out the nomination form below. Nursing support staff include:
- Certified nursing assistant
- Critical care technicians
- Emergency department technicians
- OB technicians
- Surgical technicians
- Cancer center technicians
Sunflower Award nominees display skill, devotion, compassion and enthusiasm — exemplifying the kind of support staff that our patients, their families and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model. Nominees consistently meets all of the following criteria.

Each Sunflower honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony in their unit with a certificate, a Sunflower Award pin and a hand carved stone sculpture titled, "Supporting Heart." We recognize one staff member every quarter.
The sunflower was chosen as the award theme because the sun symbolizes warmth and strength, and the flower represents devotion, compassion and enthusiasm.
